James Joyce Ramble 10K Has New Partner In Beer
Dedham’s 32nd annual James Joyce Ramble 10k has a new partner in beer; the Craft Brewers Guild of Everett plans to send 30 kegs of craft beer to this year’s after-party at the Endicott Estate. The James Joyce Ramble combines race organizer Martin Hanley's love for the literature by the late Irish author and fundraising for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Runners race past costumed actors reading aloud works such as "Finnegan's Wake", "Exiles", "Dubliners" and more. The race is the American Masters 10K Championship for USA Track & Field and draws the fastest in the sport to Dedham, one week after the Boston Marathon. Last year, the race was named “Race of the Year” by New England Runner Magazine. For the last decade, Harpoon Brewery was the sole provider of beer for the annual 10k race after party at the Estate; but since the company became employee-owned last summer the brewery was unable to participate in this year’s event. “Our company and employees feel strongly about giving back to the community that supports us,” said Michael Bernfeld, General Manager at the Craft Brewers Guild. “We’re happy to be a part of this great event that raises money for cancer research.” Brews from Cisco, Wachusett, and Downeast Cider will be served to approximately 3,000 thirsty runners at the end of the race. Cisco Whales Tale Pale Ale, Wachusett’s Blueberry Ale, and Downeast Cider’s Hard Lemonade will be some of the options. All are locally-produced in Massachusetts.
